Why Leeds

Why solar panels work for Leeds homes

Leeds homes use more electricity than the UK average, with a lot of older terraces running gas central heating but increasingly electric showers, hobs and EV chargers. South-facing roofs across the city perform genuinely well — most LS homes we survey come in at 850–1,000 kWh per installed kWp per year, which is plenty to make a 4–6 kWp system pay back inside its first decade.

What our Leeds solar installs include

Leeds is a mix: stone-built Victorian terraces in places like Chapel Allerton and Headingley (heritage scaffold rules, sometimes party-wall conversations), 1930s semis in Roundhay and Moortown (straightforward), and newer estates in Garforth, Cookridge and Alwoodley (often the cleanest installs we do). We're inside the M62 ring for most jobs and can usually scaffold within a week.

CJN Solar is based right here in Leeds. From Headingley terraces to new-build estates out at Thorpe Park, we've fitted solar across every kind of LS postcode roof and we know the city's quirks — pitch, orientation, scaffold access, and which streets need a parking permit before we turn up.

How it works

From first chat to a quietly humming inverter, in four steps.

  1. 01

    Free survey

We come to your Leeds home, look at the roof, check the loft, review your last 12 months of bills.

  2. 02

    Written quote

A fixed-price, itemised quote with the panel and battery brands listed, expected yield and your payback timeline.

  3. 03

    Tidy install

Most domestic jobs take 1–2 days. We protect floors, tidy as we go, and commission the system before we leave.

  4. 04

    Aftercare

MCS certificate, DNO notification and SEG-ready handover pack. Same team picks up the phone six months later.

Our promise

We'll tell you if solar isn't right for your Leeds roof.

We've walked away from jobs where the roof wasn't right, the orientation didn't work, or the payback maths didn't add up. Costs us a sale; saves you a regret. You'll get a straight answer at the survey — not a sales pitch.

Common questions

Leeds solar — your questions answered

  • For most homes, no — solar panels are permitted development. The exceptions are listed buildings and conservation areas (parts of Headingley, Chapel Allerton, the city centre and others), where you may need conservation area consent. We check this for every Leeds quote before scaffolding goes up.

  • A typical 4–6 kWp install on a Leeds semi takes one day for the panels and roughly a half-day for the inverter, isolator and DC/AC wiring. Battery storage adds another half-day. We hand over a fully commissioned, monitored system before we leave the site.

  • A well-sized 4 kWp system on a south-facing Leeds roof typically generates around 3,600 kWh a year. Combined with a battery and SEG export tariff, that's usually 7–10 year payback depending on your usage pattern and how much you can shift to daytime.

  • Yes — every install is MCS certified, which is what the Smart Export Guarantee requires for you to get paid for the energy you export back to the grid. We're also NAPIT registered for the electrical side and TrustMark endorsed.
